Pinterest to Plate: blueberries with Custard Sauce

June 28, 2015

Yay!  My first Pinterest to Plate post! I am so excited to have a place to document this series, where I try recipes and share my experience cooking them right here on Monarch by JR.

We all pin and re-pin tons of delicious and beautiful looking recipes, but how often do we put them to the test?  Well, I am that person who will actually cook ‘dinner for one,’ just to try a recipe I have pinned.  There is one caveat – all recipes featured will be simple, easy and perfect for a quick afterwork meal, that tastes like it look HOURS to make.  Some featured recipes I have tried, tested and gobbled up many times and love.  Others will be .  Now, let’s get to it!

I’ve tried this Blueberries with Custard Sauce recipe by Food & Wine three times, and the third came out the best.  The first time, I tried to get creative and use almond milk.  Not a good idea, although the flavor was great.  The second time, I didn’t like the consistency, as I left the mixture over the heat a little longer than I should have.  When the recipes says, “until slightly thickened,” they MEAN IT.  The third time was perfect, plus I love using my Pluck (egg separator)! The only other note to mention is to strain well and, push the liquid through the strainer, if necessary.  Remember, this is not a custard, it is a custard sauce, so don’t expect it to be even slightly congealed.
