I love being home. Being surrounded by scented candles, my iPad mini, and a great home cooked meal cooked by yours truly is a perfect day to me. And did I forget to mention undisturbed? I am sure it seems quite odd because if you follow me on social media, it seems as though I love to be the life of the party, and am always out and about. And sometimes, my life is definitely non-stop – I am an ambivert. BUT, most of the time I prefer saying no to social obligations and being home doing the things I love and that bring me joy. So if you feel the same way I do, I am here to tell you there is nothing wrong with that.
I was inspired to write this after reading the following E. Jean column in this month’s issue of ELLE magazine. And I completely identified with her question. I realize as I get older, that I want to toss my phone out the window. I feel like it’s a tether. The constant text messaging, notifications, and feeling the pressure to respond immediately– it’s too much and it prevents us from being in the present moment. I get the question all the time, “Did you get my text?” As the reader mentions, “I don’t mind seeing friends” is a true statement. I love spending time with friends and family (it truly brings me JOY and I feel blessed to have so many wonderful and true people in my orbit), but there is nothing like being home and doing ME.
As I scan my Instagram and see incredibly delicious (and filtered) looking meals eaten al fresco from the latest restaurant in LA, or snapshots from cool events most people only dream of a chance to attend, I don’t feel like I am missing out at all. I am one of the rare ones that doesn’t suffer from FOMO. Here are the following reasons why more often than not I catch a case of the JOMO:
It gives me a chance to reboot
I can be more reflective
I put myself in a place to be inspired by freely browsing the web
I can enjoy my creative hobbies like MONARCH and paint
It saves gas, money and energy
I am able to spend more time with furry friends
Look, I love a night out and a chance to get dolled up. But most of the time, I am not missing out anything, except “one less evening in–and to myself.”
Please share your thoughts with me on Twitter @itsjennrose! Do you find yourself mostly catching a case of FOMO or JOMO?
