Hair: How To Achieve The Perfect Twist-out

Yay!  My first natural hair blog post.  I get so many people asking me about my hair, products I use and techniques; so I thought this would be a great place to share photos, my faves and fails.

I finally figured out the best way for me to get the perfect twist-out that lasts five days or more!  I am THRILLED.  Typically, I am a wash and go girl, but I like different looks and decided to take on the task. Prior to doing a bit of research, it never looked that great.  I wanted my curls to look like my favorite blogger’s perfect and luscious twist-out that, of course, looks freaking effortless.

Here’s my step by step process to achieve the perfect twist out that last for days with minimal products! The photos feature 4th day hair.

Step 1
Co-wash twice with Suave Naturals Conditioner or shampoo with Pravana Nevo Moisture Rich Sulfate-Free Shampoo in four sections.

Step 2
Saturate each section in The Dove Quench Absolute Conditioner, and detangle with a Denman brush ( remove the bristles of every other section — I got this tip from Naptural85 on YouTube and it changed my life!!)

Step 3
Rinse and squeeze as much as excess water as possible, then wrap your curls in a Curl-Ease towel until it’s slightly damp (15-20 minutes).  This step is super important to get the perfect twist out. If the hair is too wet, it won’t dry in enough time and it will be frizziness, galore.  No bueno.

Step 4
Split your hair down the middle (or wherever you want your part).  Now, lightly apply 50:50 Balanced Hydrating-Calming Conditioner throughout.  Top it off with coconut oil from the mid-shaft down to the ends–concentrating heavily on those ends!

Step 5
Lastly, clip your hair into three sections on each side.  So, now your hair is in six sections. Start twisting!  Before I braid each piece, I apply a little less than a dime amount of Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.  I like to twist 20 to 24 braids.

Before bed, I wrap a satin scarf around the twists and sleep like a baby.  In the morning, make sure to give yourself an extra 10 to 20 minutes to take down the twists with ease.
